Enhanced Degradation of Ciprofloxacin in Floating Treatment Wetlands Augmented with Bacterial Cells Immobilized on Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

Antibiotic contamination of water is an emerging global issue with severe implications for both public health and the environment. Ciprofloxacin (CIP) a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic, which broadly used in human veterinary medicines around world to treat various bacterial infections. The presence CIP aquatic environment poses serious problems beings other living entities. Floating treatment wetland (FTW) low-cost eco-friendly wastewater remediation technology. In current study, Canna indica. (Indian shot) was vegetated floatable mat develop FTWs. A consortium three strains, Acinetobacter lwoffii ACRH76, Bacillus pumulis C2A1, sp. HN3, immobilized on iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs) augmented FTWs CIP-contaminated (100 mg/L) water. augmentation bacteria (immobilized or free) significantly enhanced removal from maximum reduction (98%), chemical oxygen demand (COD; 90%), biochemical (BOD; 93%) total organic carbon (TOC; 95%) observed that had Fe3O4-NP supported bacteria. This study reveals have great potential remove contaminated water, albeit its efficiency substantially by Fe3O4-NPs
